Specifies requirements for the safe design and construction of solid fuel burning heaters and related domestic appliances. Requirements include design, performance and construction materials. Also included are requirements for appliances utilizing catalytic combustors and those used for water heating purposes. This Standard does not cover the requirements for installation nor does it address the power output, efficiency, or the level of pollutant flue gas emissions.

This Standard specifies requirements for the design, construction, and performance of domestic solid fuel burning appliances which can be fully assembled prior to being transported to the installation site.NOTE: The measurements of performance of solid fuel burning appliances in terms of heat output, efficiency and emissions are to be the subjects of separate Standards. This Standard covers domestic solid fuel burning appliances in the following categories:(a) Space heaters.(b) Cooking appliances.(c) Open-vented water-heating appliances.(d) Central-heating furnaces.(e) Any combination of two or more of the appliance categories shown in (a) to (d) above. This Standard does not apply to flue pipes (see AS 2918) or warm air distribution ducting.
