A reference method is established for determining the release of Pb and Cd from articles with silicate surfaces (e.g. ceramics, glass, glass ceramics, enamels) which come into contact with food during normal use; this includes enamelled containers and enamelled water heaters. Lids are to be tested separately. A separate method is specified for testing the rim of a drinking vessel.
