Proposes the adoption of IEC 60601-2-2:1998 as a Joint Australian/New Zealand Standard. IEC 60601-2-2 sets out particular requirements for the safe design and manufacture of high frequency surgical equipment. Proposed variations for Australian and New Zealand are given in an appendix. A thorough working knowledge of its parent Standard AS/NZS 3200.1.0:1998, or a readily available copy, is necessary to deal with some of the technical issues raised.
