Rigorous entry requirements apply to all tanks which have at some stage contained leaded product, even where there is no longer any need due to the dissolution or removal of the lead.

At present, it is common oil industry practice to consider all tankage that has contained leaded gasoline to be classified as a leaded tank for its lifetime, i.e. until final dismantling.
