This specification covers one viscosity grade (SAE Viscosity grade 40) of lubricating oil for use in shipboard internal combustion diesel engines, such as advanced design high-output shipboard main propulsion and auxiliary diesel engines, using fuel conforming to MIL-DTL-16884 and MIL-DTL-5624 (grade JP-5 only). This lubricating oil is identified as Military Symbol 9250 and NATO Code O-278.
