Specifies thermometers, either straight or 90 and, in two temperature ranges viz. -5 to +50 degrees Celsius and -10 to +110 degrees Celsius. Requirements relate to materials, construction, graduation and figuring both on the thermometer tubes and the metal scale plates, accuracy, response time and marking. Appendices list approved thermometric glasses, and describe methods for determining scale error and repeatability of temperature readings.

This specification applies to metal-cased mercury-in-glass thermometers of the solid stem type intended primarily for use in the dairying industry but suitable also for use in other food processing industries. The thermometers are provided with loose-unions that facilitate installation in thermometer pockets on tanks or pipelines.NOTE: Typical straight and 90 degrees bend thermometers are illustrated in Fig. 1.
