Sets out a comprehensive system of tolerances (18 grades) and of their positions with respect to the basic size (17 positions defined by fundamental deviations), covering extensive ranges of accuracies and of variations in available fit conditions; the size range is up to and including 3150 mm. The Standard provides a simplified method for calculation of limits, based on tabulated values of deviations related to Maximum Material Conditions (MMC). For assistance in selecting limits and fits from the extensive varieties available, the Standard provides two tables of recommended fits, one for the 'hole basis fits' and the other for the 'shaft basis fits'. Certain explanatory data, comprising basic conventions and related terms, specific terms and definitions, designation of tolerance classes and interpretation of the drawing limits are included.
