Part 3 specifies the requirements for the design, performance and rating of arc welding power sources of the plasma type. It covers power sources for plasma arc cutting and welding and the electrical supply to associated torches. It applies to plasma arc power sources having an output of the drooping characteristic type (substantially constant current) and specifies limits for open-circuit voltages.

This Standard specifies requirements for the design, performance and rating of power sources for plasma arc cutting and plasma arc welding (herein after referred to as 'plasma arc power sources'). This Standard also includes requirements for the electrical supply to associated torches.
