Specifies grade descriptions for structural grades of hardwood, (Nos/1, 2, 3 and 4), graded for adequacy of strength. Derived from these grades are appearance grades which have additional limitations on the visual characteristics allowed in structural members exposed to view. A new stress grade titled A17 grade in included based on an in-grade study. Appendices cover stress grades, strength groups and methods of measurement of characteristics.

This Standard specifies requirements for visually stress-graded sawn hardwood intended for structural purposes.NOTES: 1 The coverage of hardwood species or species mixtures listed in this Standard does not imply their availability, or the availability of any particular grade of any species or species mixture.2 This Standard may be used as a basis for certification of conformity under a product certification program.
