24 - APPENDIX C - SCHEME OF ANALYSIS FOR CHROME-BEARING MATERIALS

Describes a gravimetric method for determining loss on ignition, and classical (wet analysis) and spectrophotometric methods of analysis for silicon, chromium, iron, aluminium, manganese, calcium and magnesium. Sodium, potassium and lithium are determined by flame photometry. Includes tabulation of typical composition of chrome-bearing materials to which This Standard is applicable, a statement on repeatability of the determinations, and a flowchart summarizing the total scheme of analyses.

This Standard sets out methods for the sampling, sample preparation, and analysis of chrome-bearing refractories and refractory materials. Procedures are described for determining-(a) the loss on ignition*; (b) the chemical composition*, viz the amount of silicon, chromium, titanium, iron, aluminium, manganese, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and lithium present in chrome-bearing materials, expressed as the oxides of these elements.NOTE: Appendix C provides an overview of these test procedures in flowchart form.
