Specifies requirements for long and short solid stem thermometers intended for general use over the ranges from -55 degrees Celsius to 420 degrees Celsius for long thermometers and from -55 degrees Celsius to 410 degrees Celsius for short thermometers. Details the coding which designates the graduation interval and the practical temperature range over which the thermometer is useful. Includes procedures for detecting strain in the glass, determining the change in zero and assessing the resistance of pigment fillers to chemical agents.

This standard specifies requirements for long solid-stem thermometers not exceeding 375 mm in length, and short solid-stem thermometers not exceeding 250 mm in length, intended for general use in precision temperature measurement. Nominal temperature ranges covered by these thermometers are from 55C to 420C for long thermometers and from 55C to 410C for short thermometers.
