Sets guidelines for measurement of horizontal wind speed and direction using rotating cup or propeller type anemometers and wind vanes. Includes performance requirements, performance monitoring procedures and an instrument calibration and maintenance program for wind instruments. Guidelines are given for the siting and installation of wind instruments to obtain the most representative wind data possible for a given situation. Errors in the measurement of wind speed are discussed.

This standard sets out a guide for measurement of horizontal wind speed and direction using rotating cup or propeller type anemometers and wind vanes.
