This Standard lays down the basic method of measurement for the preparation of Schedules of Quantities for use in connection with Civil Engineering Contracts. Owing to the great diversity of civil engineering work it is not practicable to specify a standard method of dividing items that is applicable in its entirety to all such work. What may be excessive subdivision for a Schedule of Quantities for one contract may well be insufficient for another. Judgement is required in deciding for any work how far the subdivision of items should be taken.
