This specification applies to hot-rolled carbon steel plates, sections and bars for general structural and engineering purposes and suitable for welding. For plate, five grades of yield stress are specified with three sub-grades in each, depending on the level of impact test requirement. For sections and bars, two grades of yield stress are specified with two sub-grades in each, depending on the level of impact test requirement.
