This Standard describes the procedure for preparing handsheets from pulp samples for subsequent testing in accordance with AS/NZS 1301.208s:1989. The revision includes an alternative procedure for recirculating white water during forming. The alternative procedure is applicable to certain high yield pulps which contain a substantial proportion of fine material , and where it is desired to retain the fines component in the test sheets. The detailed description of the apparatus has been deleted because that is now covered in AS/NZS 1391.214s:1993.

This Standard prescribes the procedure to be used for making handsheets from samples of pulp for subsequent physical testing according to AS 1301.208s. Two sheet making procedures are described. One involves draining an aliquot of stock on a wire, discarding the white water and then couching, pressing and drying the formed sheet. The second, which is particularly applicable to high-yield pulps, uses the same technique except that the white water, instead of being discarded, is recirculated so that the contribution of the fines fraction is not lost.
