Specifies essential safety requirements for approval and test purposes. It is to be read in conjunction with AS 3100.

This Standard applies to electric motor-operated appliances intended for operation at low voltage, and the largest motor of which has a rating not exceeding 1000 W. The following list contains typical examples of appliances to which this Standard is applicable:Bench grinders Cream separators Crushers and grinders Door opening devicesEvaporative-type airconditionersFans (other than those within the scope of AS/NZS 3302) Food waste disposal units Fountains Garbage compactors Ironing machinesMachine tools (other than those within the scope of AS/NZS 3160) Milking machines Office machines Polishing machines Pumps and blowers Rotating display stands Refrigerators (other than those within the scope AS 3303/NZS 6324) Sign flashers Sirens and bells Window display devices This Standard does not apply to the following:(a) Motor-operated appliances covered by separate Approval and Test Specifications.(b) Except for fan controllers and similar equipment, motor control equipment which is not incorporated in the appliance with which the motor is associated or of which it forms a part.(c) Separate motors.For the purpose of this Standard a motor-operated appliance is referred to as an appliance.
