Specifies requirements for the mass, quality and testing of hot-dip galvanized coatings present on hollow sections galvanized on both surfaces in a specialized plant, hollow sections galvanized on external surfaces only using the in-line process and hollow sections produced by welding pre-galvanized steel strip. Appendices give corrosion information, advice on transport and storage of galvanized products, requirements for the renovation of uncoated areas and methods for the determination of coating mass and local thickness.

This Standard specifies requirements for the mass, quality and testing of hot-dip galvanized coatings applied to-(a) hollow sections galvanized on both surfaces in a specialized plant;(b) hollow sections produced by welding pre-galvanized steel strip; and(c) hollow sections galvanized on external surfaces only, using a continuous (in-line) process.Matters relating to the quality, properties, or dimensional requirements of the steel hollow sections are outside the scope of this Standard.NOTES:1 Advice and recommendations on information to be supplied by the purchaser to the hot-dip galvanizer at the time of enquiry or order are contained in the purchasing guidelines set out in Appendix A.2 Alternative means for determining compliance with this Standard are given in Appendix B.3 For details of testing requirements for uncoated steel hollow sections see relevant product Standards, e.g. AS 1074 and AS 1163.4 General information on factors that affect the corrosion of galvanized steel is given in Appendix C.
