GENERALThis Australian Technical Specification sets out requirements for the installation and commissioning of meters complying with ATS 4747.3, for use in non-urban applications in open channel and part-filled pipe applications. The Australian Technical Specification principally covers metering for irrigation water. The Australian Technical Specification applies to meters that operate under the following conditions:(a) In an open channel or a pipe flowing partially full.(b) In water with temperature from 0.1°C to 30°C.(c) In ambient temperatures of -5°C to 55°C.Two types of meter installations are covered in this Australian Technical Specification, as follows:(i) Meters whose calibration is not affected by the installation, provided the installation is in accordance with the installation conditions specified in the product certification or applicable Australian Standard. These types of meters may include devices/arrangements such as prefabricated calibrated over-shot gates, Dethridge meters, prefabricated weirs and flumes.(ii) Meters that are installed in accordance with an Australian Technical Specification, which need to be-(A) calibrated after installation in order to conform with the accuracy requirements; and(B) endorsed by the authority having jurisdiction before they can be used. These meters may include such devices as HVQ (height, velocity, flow) meters and the larger bulk water meter types such as multipath transit time acoustic meters, electromagnetic meters, Doppler acoustic meters and stage discharge relationship (river gauging) installations. In this Australian Technical Specification a meter installation is considered to include - 1 the meter, and the display unit;2 upstream and downstream channel or pipe conditions that may have a material effect on the performance of the meter; and3 any associated flow control devices. APPLICATIONThis Australian Technical Specification is intended to meet the requirements of the Australian Water Initiative for metering non-urban water.
