To provide access for persons who normally fit their own ladders.

This British Standard specifies requirements for hooks that are intended to be welded permanently to chimneys and other high structures in steel to provide means of access for inspection and maintenance by steeplejacks and members of similar trades who normally fit their own ladders.

The requirements specified for the hooks are in respect of materials, design, construction, dimensions and method of fixing.

Recommendations on the use of access fittings are given in appendix A.

NOTE 1. The attachment of the hooks specified in this standard to chimneys or other high structures made of plate less than 6 mm thick is not recommended.

NOTE 2. The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover.
