Describes two methods for determination of volume of gas diffusing through wall of rubber or plastics hose in a specified period. Method 1: For determining permeance of test gas through complete hose wall, excluding end-fittings. Used when evaluating gas permeance characteristics of hoses with pricked covers. Method 2: For determining permeance of test gas through hose inner lining and reinforcement. Used when determining permeance characteristics of hoses with an unpricked cover when gas usually issues from textile reinforcement at cut ends. Applicable only to test gases which are insoluble in water, e.g. alkanes, alkenes and freons.
