This is the fourth memorandum in the series prepared by Committee E/-/3 and reviews the rules given in British Standards and other documents for calculating stresses due to local loads and local attachments. It comments on the application of the rules and recommends areas in which further theoretical and experimental study is required. Prepared by Dr. R. Kitching of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology it has been scrutinized and approved by the various committees responsible for particular British Standards for pressure vessels.
