PLASTICS, PAINTS AND VARNISHES - THERMOSETTING RESINS - DETERMINATION OF FREE FORMALDEHYDE IN CONDENSATION RESINS

Superseded date

Published date

Methods used for determining percentage by mass of free formaldehyde present in condensation resins that are not yet fully cured. For purposes of the standard, free formaldehyde is that which is present in condensation resins in uncombined form as formaldehyde, formaldehyde hydrate (dihydroxymethylene) or polyoxymethylene. Resins include urea, furan, melamine and phenolic resins, as well as combinations and modifications. Since no method exists that is universally applicable to all resins, several methods are necessary.
