Defines general principles to be followed when compression moulding thermoplastic moulding materials so as to prepare specimens or sheets for machining or stamping of specimens. Central to the aim of of obtaining reproducible results when testing specimen properties is the requirement that these are in a reproducible state, this in turn being a function of the moulding apparatus, pretreatment of the moulding material, and moulding procedure. Four different cooling methods are defined. For each material, the required moulding conditions shall be as specified in the appropriate standards for thermoplastic moulding materials or shall be subject to agreement. Not applicable to expandable thermoplastics.
