Der Zweck der Norm ist die Festlegung der Endenabschlüsse von konfektionierten Kabeln. Diese Norm behandelt Lichtwellenleiter-Simplex- und -Duplexkabel, die zum Einsatz als Patchkabel, Anschlusskabel und Gerätekabel in unkontrollierter Umgebung (U) nach IEC 61753-1 mit weiteren Anforderungen an jedem Kabelende mit nicht schräg angeschliffenen (PC) und schräg angeschliffenen (APC) Einmoden-Lichtwellenleiter-Steckverbindern abgeschlossen sind.
