ISO 6621-3 legt eine Klassifizierung von für die Herstellung von Kolbenringen geeigneten Werkstoffen fest. Als Klassifizierungskriterien dienen die mechanischen Eigenschaften dieser Werkstoffe und die Mindestbiegefestigkeitswerte, denen sie standhalten können. ISO 6621-3 gilt für die Herstellung von Kolbenringen bis 200 mm Durchmesser für Hubkolben-Verbrennungsmotoren. Diese Norm gilt auch für Kolbenringe mit ähnlichen Betriebsbedingungen in Kompressoren.
