Specification for general purpose natural gas

Superseded date

06-30-2017

Published date

10-10-2001

The gas specification outlined in this draft Standard sets out the gas quality requirements necessary to ensure the safety of general purpose natural gas transported and supplied for use in natural gas appliances and equipment and for use as fuel in natural gas vehicles. General purpose natural gas is intended for transportation in transmission and distribution systems, within or across state borders, and for general-purpose use. Gas complying with this draft specification is safe for general purpose use, but is not necessarily fit for purpose in all applications. The draft also provides certainty for appliance manufacturers who supply appliances for use in the Australian market. The issue of departures from limits defined in the specification are not within the scope of this Standard; this is subject to and provided for under relevant gas sales contracts, legislation and/or government guidelines. The Standard is not intended to apply to gas supplies where no "general purpose" users are connected to the supply system, eg. a dedicated supply to an industrial user.
