Proposes guidelines for assessing the environmental impacts of outdoor lighting and gives recommended limits for the relevant lighting parameters which should be controlled to contain the impacts within tolerable levels. Refers to the potential effects of lighting systems on occupants of neighbouring properties, users of adjacent roads (e.g. vehicle drivers, pedestrians, cyclists) and transport signalling systems (e.g. air, marine, rail), and astronomical observations. Does not apply to road lighting the environmental requirements for which are embodied in AS 1158.1; nor does it apply to illuminated advertising signs except for those of the externally illuminated type.
