Proposes procedures for determining the performance of sunscreen products in terms of their mean protection factors. It suggests test methods for both broad-spectrum and water-resistant sunscreen products, as well as detailed labelling requirements. This edition proposes an increase in the maximum SPF that may be claimed on the label of a product, and that any sunscreen with a label protection factor greater than 15 must also be broad spectrum and suggests measurement limits for the solar simulator output. Specific comment is invited on these points. Proposed as a Joint Australian/New Zealand Standard.
