DETERMINATION OF ROLLING CONTACT FATIGUE FAILURE - MODIFIED FOUR BALL MACHINE METHOD

Withdrawn date

07-23-2013

Published date

01-12-2013

The modified Four-ball Machine is one of a number of machines that can be used to assess the tendency of fluids to produce fatigue failures in rolling contacts. The choice of test method to be used is dependent upon the requirements of the user. Such factors are discussed in Appendix A, which also gives guidance on the interpretation of the results of rolling fatigue tests. Appendix B discusses the use of alternative lubrication systems. Intending users of this method are advised to read Appendices A and B before proceeding. With due consideration to the Four-ball Machine can provide a simple and relatively short-term rolling fatigue test.
