The brightness of pulps and papers mentioned herein shall be the ratio of the reflectance of those pulps and papers when illuminated with the light in the blue and violet portions of the spectrum to that of the standard magnesium oxide surface. This value has intimate correlation to the brightness of a white or nearly white pulp and paper and also is applicable to the bleached pulp and the paper made therefrom.
