Deze norm beschrijft een methode voor de titrimetrische bepaling van ammonium in water en slib. De norm is van toepassing op alle soorten water met een gehalte aan ammoniumstikstof groter dan 5 mg/l, en op alle soorten slib. Voor water waarvan het gehalte aan ammoniumstikstof kleiner dan 5 mg/l is, of waarvan het gehalte door verdunning kleiner dan 5 mg/l is gemaakt, dient de bepaling te geschieden volgens NEN 6472. Storingen door aminen worden niet altijd geheel opgeheven door de toegepaste destillatie.
