Deze norm beschrijft een methode voor het aantonen van coagulase-positieve staphylococcen in melk en melkproducten door kweken in een selectief vloeibaar medium. De methode is vooral bestemd voor monsters waarin gehalten aan coagulase-positieve staphylococcen worden verwacht van 100 of minder per gram niet-vloeibaar of dik-vloeibaar product, of van 10 of minder per ml vloeibaar product. De groep van coagulase-positieve staphylococcen bestaat voornamelijk uit Staphylococcus aureus, maar ook een aantal andere zoals Staphylococcus intermedius en sommige stammen van Staphylococcus hyicus.
