A Withdrawn Standard is one, which is removed from sale, and its unique number can no longer be used. The Standard can be withdrawn and not replaced, or it can be withdrawn and replaced by a Standard with a different number.

Doel van deze norm is de gezamenlijke handelingen te omschrijven die het mogelijk maken voor een gegeven product de proefstaven te verkrijgen voor het mechanisch onderzoek en de monsters voor de bepaling van de chemische samenstelling, evenals die voor de andere dan mechanische en chemische proeven. Zij is niet van toepasing op proeven door middel van niet-destructief onderzoek.
