La présente Norme européenne définit les prescriptions de performance et les méthodes d'essai applicables aux préparateurs d'eau chaude sanitaire non ouverts à l'air libre (chauffe-eau fermés) d'une capacité maximale de 1000 l destinés à être raccordés à un réseau d'alimentation en eau à une pression comprise entre 0,05 MPa et 1,0 MPa (0,05 bar à 1,0 bar), équipés des dispositifs de commande et de sécurité conçus pour éviter que la température de l'eau chaude stockée ne dépasse 100 degrés C. Bien que la présente norme ne s'applique pas aux ballons à échangeur, celle-ci permet la mise à disposition d'éléments de chauffe électrique à usage auxiliaire.
