La CEI 61977 s'applique à la famille de filtres pour fibres optiques. Ces composants ont les caractéristiques générales suivantes: - ils sont passifs et fixes. La modification de la distribution de l'intensité spectrale qu'ils produisent ne peut pas être accordée; - ils ont un maximum de deux ports (fibres optiques, ou connecteurs à fibre optique) pour la transmission de la puissance optique; - ils diffèrent selon leurs caractéristiques (passe-bas, passe-haut, passe-bande et coupebande). Cette norme établit des exigences uniformes pour leurs propriétés optiques, mécaniques et environnementales, ainsi que pour les procédures d'essai et de mesure pour l'évaluation qualité.
