Recommended Practice: Precast Concrete Sandwich Panels is published by National Precast Concrete Association Australia (NPCAA).
Interest in precast concrete sandwich panels has increased significantly as part of the industry response to community concern with greenhouse gas emissions. Regulatory changes have resulted in increased R-value requirements within the National Construction Code (NCC).
Sandwich panels have superior thermal and acoustic properties. Unlike most other walling systems, sandwich panels have the majority of their thermal mass on the interior of the building and, as a result, their high thermal storage capacity makes them capable of storing and then releasing heat very slowly. This minimises fluctuations in the internal temperatures of the building. Sandwich panels also insulate against both airborne and impact sound. In addition they are highly fire resistant and incredibly durable.
