Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Prüfverfahren fest, mit dem die Stossdämpfung von Spielplatzböden ermittelt werden kann. Diese Prüfung liefert für eine Bodenart eine kritische Fallhöhe (siehe 3.2), welche die obere Grenze der Eignung zur Verminderung von Kopfverletzungen darstellt, wenn Spielplatzgeräte nach EN 1176 benutzt werden. Die in der Europäischen Norm beschriebenen Prüfverfahren gelten sowohl für im Labor durchgeführte Prüfungen als auch für vor Ort durchgeführte Prüfungen.
