Diese Norm legt für neue Verdichterstationen funktionale Anforderungen fest, die bei Planung, Errichtung, Betrieb, Instandhaltung und Entsorgung zu beachten sind. Das Ziel der Norm besteht darin, Gefahren für Beschäftigte und Dritte abzuwenden, Umweltbelange zu berücksichtigen und Schäden an Eigentum zu vermeiden. Für bereits in Betrieb befindliche Verdichterstationen muss diese Norm nur für jene Teile analog angewendet werden, welche zu erneuern, zu erweitern oder zu entsorgen sind.
