Diese ÖNORM teilt metallische Werkstoffe, die zur Herstellung von Zahnersatz und Prothesen geeignet sind, sowie metallische Werkstoffe, die zum Einsatz mit oder ohne eine keramische Verblendung bzw. für beide Anwendungen empfohlen werden, in Typen ein und legt deren Anforderungen fest. Darüber hinaus werden Anforderungen mit Blick auf die Verpackung und Kennzeichnung des Produktes sowie auf die mit der Anwendung dieser Werkstoffe zur Verfügung zu stellenden Anweisungen festgelegt. Diese Norm gilt weder für Legierungen für dentale Amalgame (ISO 24234), Dentallote (ISO 9333) noch für metallische Werkstoffe für kieferorthopädische Produkte (ISO 15841) (z. B. Draht, Bracket, Band und Schraube).
