Diese ÖVE/ÖNORM behandelt die Sicherheit elektrischer ortsfester Heizeinsätze für den Hausgebrauch und ähnliche Zwecke, die zur Installation in einem zur Atmosphäre hin offenen Wasserbehälter zum Erhitzen von Wasser auf eine Temperatur unterhalb seines Siedepunktes bestimmt sind. Die Bemessungsspannung beträgt nicht mehr als 250 V für Einphasen-Heizeinsätze und 480 V für andere Heizeinsätze. Der Wasserbehälter kann alternative Möglichkeiten zum Erhitzen von Wasser besitzen, wie z. B. die Zirkulation heissen Wassers, versorgt von einem separaten Heizkessel. Heizeinsätze mit einer Bemessungsleistungsaufnahme bis zu 25 kW, bestimmt zum Einbau als eine alternative Wärmequelle in Heizkesseln von Zentralheizungen, gehören auch zum Anwendungsbereich dieser Norm.
