Sie enthält Verweisungen, Einzelheiten zur Dokumentstruktur, Definitionen, bevorzugte Leistungsklassen und Regeln, nach denen optische Schnittstellen hergestellt werden. Diese Norm legt die Lage des Faserkerns in Bezug auf den optischen Bezugspunkt sowie die folgenden Schlüsselparameter fest: seitlicher Versatz, Endflächenabstand, Endflächenwinkel, Beschaffenheit der Schicht mit erhöhtem Brechungsindex auf der Endfläche.
