ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE (ATM) AND ATM ADAPTATION LAYER (AAL) PROTOCOLS GENERIC REQUIREMENTS.
07-01-1994
01-12-2013
Concentrates on the generic requirements for the protocols of the ATM Layer and AAL as they operate across the User Network Interface (UNI) and the Network Node Interface (NNI). A general description of each protocol is given, including services provided to the upper layer, services expected from the lower layer, their interaction with the Management Plane (MP), the functions of the protocols in the different entities they may operate, and related processes. For each protocol, requirements have been set forth for the messages exchanged between peer entities, as well as for the processes and procedures that have an impact on interfaces. Three AAL protocols are presented, one to support Unstructured Constant Bit Rate service and the other two for Variable Bit Rate (VBR) services.
