Presents Bellcore's view of proposed generic requirements for an interface and associated communications protocol for bidirectional transmission of data between a Stored Program Controlled Switching System (SPCS) and an Analog Display Services CPE. The data transmission can be provided over the voice path consisting of an analog loop facility between the customer's premises and a serving local SPCS. However, the CPE might instead be connected via the SPCS over voice grade facilities of the PSTN to a host computer using this interface and protocol. Developers of various features on host computers may find these generic requirements to be useful guidelines for the implementation of an interface to permit host computers to also communicate with such Analog Display Services CPE.
