Provides Bellcore's view of the proposed generic functional requirements for public telephones and terminals at the user, network, and operations systems interfaces. Briefly describes the functional units that can be included in a public telecommunications terminal, considers the performance of the terminal as it relates to the user or a customer, and provides requirements for the terminal, operating as a telephone, to properly interface with the local network. Deals with the terminal's ability to accept both coins and cards as a method of payment for communications services, and with the physical and environmental conditions in which the public terminal is expected to function. Also considers the relationship of the terminal to its three potential power sources. Bulletin 1: This bulletin make this document consistent with generic LATA Switching Systems Generic Requirements (LSSGR) for the reception of those tones.
