Describes hardness tests on transverse sections of arc welded joints of metallic materials. Covers Vickers hardness tests according to ISO 6507-1, usually with test loads of 49 N or 98 N (HV5 or HV10). Principles may be applicable to Brinell hardness testing (with appropriate testing loads of HB 2,5/15, 625 or HB 1/2, 5) according to EN 10003-1 and micro-hardness testing according to ISO 6507-2 and EN1043-2. Tests should determine the highest and lowest level of hardness of both parent metal and weld metal. Testing type and extent should be specified by the relevant application standard or with the agreement of the contracting parties.
