Online Shopping Information

This section covers purchases made through the SAI Global web site, for both hardcopy (paper) Standards delivered by mail order, or electronic PDF file copies of Standards downloaded directly to your computer.

How can I find the Standard I need?

Our web catalogue provides you with several ways to find the right Standard to meet your needs:

What products can I order online?

Most Standards ordered can be delivered to you in two ways. First is the traditional paper method. You can ask for a “hardcopy” book to be delivered to you using normal mail order.

But being an environmentally friendly company we also give you the option of downloading them as electronic Standards in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, that you can store on your computer.

You can choose which version you want when you add Standards to the shopping cart, or when you are ready to finalise your order.

How can I search for all available publications, not just current publications?

The quick search function (located under the menu tabs at top of page) only shows Current publications. To view all available publications, including superseded publications, you must perform an ‘Advanced Search’ (located next to the ‘Go’ button on the same line). Here you will go to the drop down menu for ‘Publication Status’ and select ‘All’.

How can I narrow my search by publisher or subject?

To see all available publishers and to filter by subject, click on ‘Publisher / Subject’ on the left hand side of the search results page, this will expand all available options.

I cannot see the price of the document or add it to my Standards Watch on the search results page?

Standards Watch and pricing information can be viewed on the product page. Select the product you are interested in on the search results page to see all available format options, pricing and to add it to your Standards Watch subscription.

How do I download free Standards?

Free PDF Standards must be added to your cart and taken through the normal checkout process. You will not be charged if the PDF is listed as Free. Delivery and handling charges apply to hardcopy formats.

Cover Pages

When an electronic version of a Standard is purchased a cover page is automatically attached to the file providing useful web links including the ability to easily check whether the document is still current or if any amendments have been published (sample PDF cover page)

What is a watermark?

A watermark is additional information that has been added to a document to identify the rightful licensee. In the case of downloaded Standards, using a watermark is a means of personalising each Standard that you download. The watermark displays your name, and the download date on each page of the Standard (in the left margin). It shows that you are the rightful licensee of that Standard.

Why does SAI Global use watermarking?

In order to protect the copyright on Australian Standards®, we need to control the level of distribution of these documents.

What is a Mobile Pack?

Mobile Packs are generated from the publisher’s original Standard or Regulation and then approved as a new format by the publisher. We advise all customers to use all of the formats in conjunction with the original Standard and copyright permissions remain in full force.

What is in a Mobile Pack?

1 x Original Published PDF Format
1 x eBook (ideal for tablets and laptops
1 x ePub File (ideal for Apple products)
1 x Mobi File (ideal for Smartphones)

These will be supplied in one .zip file as a download once paid for in InfoStore. For example, the Customer can use the original PDF in the office, the eBook on their iPad and the ePub file on their iPhone all at the same time. Product may install and use the Product on a network with the number of Concurrent Users permitted corresponding to the number of users specified in the SAI Global Infostore order.

So the Mobile Pack contains the latest Publisher released Standard as well?

Yes each Mobile Pack includes the original Publisher Standard, just as if you ordered the PDF. However, in addition are the other digital formats created from the original PDF for you to choose how to use.

Has the content been changed in anyway?

No, the main information in the Standard stays exactly the same across all the formats. Iit has just been made more flexible!

On how many devices can I use the files in the Mobile Pack?

You can use the files within the Mobile Pack on as many devices as you like as long as the device is owned by you or your organization. You may not share, copy or transfer the files to any device owned outside of your organization. Product may install and use the Product on a network with the number of Concurrent Users permitted corresponding to the number of users specified in the SAI Global Infostore order.

Are there any other copyright restrictions?

Yes these files have the same strict copyright protection as a normal PDF or printed format. These are still the Publisher’s intellectual property.

How do I load the file into my Smartphone?

There are many different ways of doing this, and many different Smartphones, so we suggest you check with your Smartphone’s user guide about uploading files to view. Adobe also has an app to read files. Please visit www.adobe.com for more information.

How do I load the file into my iPhone?

You will need to have an iBook account loaded available from www.apple.com to do this. Simply follow the instructions to upload content.

How do I return a Mobile Pack?

Regrettably, SAI Global will not normally offer to refund or allow you to return Standards if you simply change your mind, or if you just don’t want them anymore.

Our catalogue, and trained Customer Service Centre and Information Services staff provide a wealth of information about our Standards and other products to help you make an informed decision before you buy.

As a business that deals almost solely with intellectual property, or ideas, we need to safeguard this to the best of our ability. This is our most valuable asset. The true value of a Standard is not the paper and ink that makes up the book in a physical sense, but the knowledge that is contained and the knowledge that you obtain from reading it.

The difference between our intellectual property (which is intangible) and other tangible goods, is that once Standards have been read they have effectively been consumed. Once read, it is not possible to return that knowledge to us.

Most tangible products however, like clothing for example, are able to be returned for resale, with the original customer no longer enjoying the benefits of that piece of clothing. This is not the case with intellectual property like that which is contained in Standards.

What is the shopping cart and how does it work?

The shopping cart holds all the Standards that you are ordering. You can add or delete Standards from the shopping cart until you decide to finalise your order. Once at the checkout, you can change quantities, remove Standards, or go back to search for and add new ones.

How do I put Standards into the shopping cart?

After you have found the Standards that you want, simply click in the check box for the version you want (Hardcopy or electronic PDF), or click its “Order” link to place it in your shopping cart. It’s exactly the same thing for both hardcopy (paper) versions of Standards, or for downloading an electronic PDF file of the Standard.

Can I add more than one book to my shopping cart before going to the checkout?

Yes you can. After searching or browsing for the Standards you are looking for, simply click the check box of each Standard you want to add to your shopping cart, then press the “Process” button to add them all at once. Of course you can add Standards one at a time if you prefer.

How do I update the shopping cart if I make any changes?

Every time that you add or delete a Standard, change the quantity ordered or the desired delivery option, you will need to press the “Update” button. At any time up until you finalise your order, you can change your mind about a Standard or even cancel your entire order. It’s just like putting the Standards back on the shelf.

Do I have to buy every Standard I put in the shopping cart?

No you don’t. If you decide to delete a book from your order simply click on the “Remove Item” button next to the Standard you no longer want. You must remember to click on the “Update” button to recalculate your order. You can also empty the entire shopping cart by clicking on the “Empty Cart” button, and begin an entirely new search.

Can I buy multiple licences for my downloaded Standards?

Yes you can. When you choose to download a PDF version of a Standard you are buying a licence to access that Standard. This licence sets out the rights and obligations of purchasers. The shopping cart defaults to a single user licence. However you can choose to licence up to three personal user licences, making your selection from the pull-down menu in the shopping cart, next to each Standard to be purchased. This allows you to install the one downloaded file on up to three separate computers, depending on the number of licences purchased. Multiple user licensing is available for all downloadable Australian, ISO and IEC Standards.

How can I share my Standards on a network?

When purchasing and downloading Standards you can choose to buy multiple network licences. This option can be easily selected from the pull-down menu in the shopping cart, next to each Standard to be purchased. Network licences are sold on a concurrent user basis, and are available in a range of usage bands so you can choose the most appropriate level of concurrent user coverage for your business. It allows you to install a single downloaded file and make this available to a range of concurrent users. This means that the maximum number of people able to access the Standard at any one time is limited to the number of licences purchased. Network licensing is available for most downloadable Australian, ISO and IEC Standards.

How do I place my final order?

Once you have finished selecting the Standards you want to buy you need to go to your Shopping Cart page - this can be accessed at any time by clicking the shopping cart icon at the top right of any page. From the Shopping Cart page simply click on the “Process Order” button and then simply follow the easy payment steps. If this button is disabled you must first choose a delivery method.

Do you provide a receipt if I pay with my credit card?

Yes we do. If you have downloaded a PDF version of a Standard, just follow the “My Receipt” link from the download page. This will produce a printer friendly receipt that you are able to print off.

If you buy a hardcopy to be shipped to you by mail order, we will send you a receipt with your purchase.

Will I receive confirmation of my order?

Yes you will. When you download an electronic copy of a Standard, we will automatically send you an e-mail notification with a link back to a secure download page where your purchase is stored. We strongly urge you to add this page to your favourites or bookmarks, as this is where your Standard has been downloaded to until you copy it to your own computer. We give you 7 days to copy the PDF file to your computer. After that time the file(s) will no longer be made available on the secure download page.

Customers ordering hardcopy Standards through our web site will also receive an e-mail notification confirming their purchase.

I’m having shopping cart problems.

Delivery Options

Downloading PDF Files

Being an environmentally friendly company we give you the option of downloading Standards as electronic files in Adobe Acrobat PDF format that you can store on your computer. There are no postage and handling charges. Plus you will be doing your bit to help save a tree by reducing paper printing costs on the environment.

They are also available at your desktop instantly, so you don’t have to wait for them to arrive through the post.

Electronic Standards are prepared in PDF format (Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format) and are placed in a secure page for download. The estimated file download time is displayed in the shopping cart, based on a 57600 kbps modem connection.

Once you have bought a Standard this way, you must add the secure download page to your favourites or bookmarks list. This is where your Standard has been downloaded and stored until you copy it to your own computer. Once we have delivered the PDF file to your secure download page it is then your responsibility to ensure that you collect it by copying this file to your computer. You have 7 days to take possession of your Standard by copying the PDF file to your computer. After that time the file is deleted from the download page.

Buying Standards as PDF files is subject to the conditions of the Licence Agreement. The Licence Agreement protect copyright. To protect copyright you are only allowed to print one hardcopy from each downloaded PDF file.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 or later is required to view and print PDF files. Acrobat Reader is available free from www.adobe.com.

Hardcopy Standards

Hardcopy orders placed via our web site using SAI Global Standards Subscriber accounts are dispatched via Priority service to your registered address and cannot be forwarded to an alternative delivery address. Credit card orders can be delivered to any address.

Pricing and Availability

Australian Standards® are priced very competitively in comparison to overseas Standards bodies. In fact we are among the cheapest anywhere in the world.

Standards sold as PDF files are always available because when you buy a PDF file Standard we send you the file directly from our database. You also do not have wait for them to be delivered, as you would with paper Standards delivered via mail order. And you can access our web catalogue and download PDF files 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Most paper Australian Standards® are printed on demand. This may sound simple but is the result of highly advanced world-leading technology. So just what is print on demand? Well, the name says it all. Instead of maintaining a large stock of all printed Standards, most Standards will now be printed only when required by a customer actually placing an order. What this means for you is that with print on demand (POD) Standards they will never be out of stock.

And because they're printed on demand, any amendments are automatically bound into the book, and we're progressively moving to actually place the amendments in the text, eliminating the painstaking cut-and-paste process that most customers dread whenever they see a green slip amendment.
