Specifies requirements for electroplated coatings of gold and gold alloys 0.5 µm and greater in thickness on metallic materials for decorative, electrical, electronic and general engineering applications. It does not apply to coatings on screw threads, or metals in the unfabricated form.

This Standard specifies requirements for electroplated coatings of gold and gold alloys 0.5 mm and greater in thickness on metallic materials for decorative, electrical, electronic, protective and general engineering applications. It does not apply to coatings on screw threads, sheet, strip and wire in the unfabricated form, or to those coatings less than 0.5 mm thick, commonly called 'flash coatings'.NOTES:1 The purity requirements for gold coatings for engineering applications differ from those required for decorative purposes (see Clause 7.4).2 Advice and recommendations on information to be supplied by the purchaser at the time of enquiry and order are contained in the purchasing guidelines set out in Appendix A.3 Typical applications for electroplated gold coatings are given in Appendix B.
