Specifies a system of labelling diskettes and diskette drives to reduce the problems associated with a range of similar diskette sizes and densities. This Standard is technically equivalent to ISO 9983:1989.

This Australian Standard specifies an identifier to appear on each diskette and the minimum information to appear on packages of unrecorded diskettes.Drives for diskettes should bear the indication of the type(s) of diskette they can handle.Manuals for drives and systems should also include this information.NOTE: TERMINOLOGY-in Australian Standards the term 'diskette' has now been adopted as the sensible and most commonly used terminology; it will, in future, replace the confusing 'fl exible disk cartridge' which is not used by the industry or end users. Some other terms which are used, occasionally, for the same meaning include Floppy disk, Flexi disk and Mini-floppy.
