1.1These test methods cover procedures for determining strength properties under specified loads for rigid-faced structural insulated panels. These test methods are appropriate for structural insulated panels with rigid facings having a minimum thickness of 0.16 in. (4 mm) and an insulating core with a minimum thickness of 1.5 in. (38 mm). These specified loads include:

1.1.1Transverse loads,

1.1.2Axial loads,

1.1.3Shear loads,

1.1.4Diaphragm loads,

1.1.5Uplift loads,

1.1.6Long Term loads

1.1.7Impact loads, and

1.1.8Concentrated loads.

1.2Structural insulated panels are intended to resist structural loads in permanent building structures.

1.3These test methods are not intended for quality control purposes and do not evaluate the individual components of the structural insulated panels.

1.4These test methods are not intended to measure dimensional stability.

1.5The text of this standard references notes and footnotes, excluding tables and figures, which provide explanatory information. These notes and footnotes shall not be considered requirements of the standard.

1.6The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.

1.7This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.8This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
