Overview Safe transportation is a critical element of full community participation for persons with physical disabilities, and over-the-road buses (OTRB) are a popular method of transportation as they are commonly used for city-to-city travel, scheduled local and regional tours, and charter trips. First published in 2003, this second edition of CSA D436 provides updated requirements that help enable OTRB operators to integrate persons with disabilities into their routine services. This standard is designed to complement CSA D435 Accessible Transit Buses, which is applicable to transit (cross-city) buses. It also is intended to be used in conjunction with standards issued by Transport Canada under the federal Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (MVSR). Highlights of D436: Updated to harmonize with latest Transport Canada regulations and standards for inter-city buses Details revised requirements for the design and positioning of mobility aid securement and occupant restraint (MASOR) systems and anchors Clearly describes new testing procedures for MASOR systems Includes extensive updates to the requirements for wheelchair lifts (Clause 8)
